Evaluating the product, have 3 questions

I am evaluating BP-VA for our business process modeling needs and have 3 questions:

1. Does BP-VA provide a way to validate the diagram for BPMN compliance? I know that the product will stop you from creating invalid data flow connections but that's not enough. After drawing my diagram, I would like to run some kind of validation to see if my diagram is BPMN compliant. I have drawn some incorrect diagrams (e.g. more than one sequence flow coming into an intermediate message event) but don't see any errors.

2. Does BP-VA support native BPMN attributes as defined in the BPMN specification version 1.0? I do see some properties and I do see some attribute e.g. loop type but I don't see ALL BPMN attributes e.g. MI_FlowCondition

3. Can BP-VA export non product specific BPEL? I know it can export BPEL for oracle and jbpm products but I want WS-BPEL compliant BPEL that is free from any product specific extensions.

Hi crajyaguru,

Thanks for your post. Regarding to your question:

1. We are sorry that currently we do not support the validation for BPMN compliance, but it will be supported in BP-VA 2.3 SP2 (VP Suite 3.3 SP2) which is expected to be released at the end of 2008. If there is any news about this feature, I'll come back to you immediately.

2. Our BP-VA follows the Specification (OMG Final Adopted BPMN 1-0 Spec 2006-02-01.pdf) and contains all BPMN 1.0 attributes. For the MI_FlowCondition, it exists already in our tool. Please refer to the flash movie at the following link for the MI_FlowCondition:
http://files3.visual-paradigm.com/200804/Lilian/movie/MI_FlowCondition.htm

3. Besides Oracle and jBPM, you can also generate BPEL for Generic (please refer to the image below). Is this what you are looking for?

If there are any further inquiries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards,
Lilian Wong

Lilian,
Thank you for your response. I would have thought BPMN validation would be the first feature you would add and then attributes, bpel generation etc. but may be not...

Your second and third answers do point me in the right direction. That is exactly what I was looking for. I wonder however, what would happen if you try to generate BPEL from a non-compliant BPMN model.

Hi crajyaguru,

I'm pleased that I could help, and I'll keep you informed for any news about the validation for BPMN compliance.

And for your question regarding to generate BPEL, the application should prompt you that something wrong in your model.

If there are any inquiries, please feel free to contact me again.

Best regards,
Lilian Wong
