The font issue is fixed, very good. Alas the tool still takes ages to start up. I hope my log files clear things up...

Hi Atle,

Thanks for your try on the latest build and I'm glad that it solves the font problem.

Our engineers are investigating your starting time problem, and I'm come back to you immediately once there is any feedback.

Best regards,

Hi Atle,

regarding to the startup time of SDE-EC, you've mentioned that
"I can only guess that it has something to do with my upgrade to OpenJDK..."

Does this mean that you did not have any time problem on starting SDE-EC with old OpenJDK? If yes, could you please tell me the versions of the old OpenJDK you used? Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Hi, i am not certain of anything here, but the slowdown happened after i upgraded to kubuntu 8.04. The only difference i know of concerning java is that the new kubuntu has OpenJDK installed, and the previous version had the "standard" sun JDK 1.6. There might of course be other changes i am unaware of, maybe in the networking area. I am actually quite puzzled, because the CPU useage is very low during the startup (so no infinite loops), but there is progress (no deadlock). Maybe there are lot of threads that hang on long timeouts? (I am just guessing wildly).

Hi Atle,

We are studying your problem of starting SDE-EC for long time, and we would like to know if you get the same problem for old JDK.

Could you have a try with your Standard JDK 1.6 and see if the problem exist as well? Thanks a lot and looking for your reply.

Best regards,

I changes the JRE to the SUN standard JRE6, and now it starts like a charm...
Do you submit the case to the OpenJDK project? ( I really think this should be reported, after all the OpenJDK 6 is the base for the next version of java, however its hard for me to pinpoint the problem, since i have no insight in your code...)
