Is the DTD available for the XML export format from the BP Modeler ?

Is it possible to import to VP BP Modeler from other products XML/XMI exports (as you support for for UML models)?

What version of BPMN does the BP Modeler comply with? 1.0 or 1.1 ?

Thanks!

Dear errant01,

Thank you for your post. There is an XSD for the exported XML. You can find it at %VP-SUITE-INSTALL-DIR%/bundled, named project.xsd. I regret that DTD is not available at the moment.

Which product do you want us to support? I will pass your need on to our team.

Finally, we support version 1.1 of BPMN.

Best regards,
Jick

If you support 1.1, there are some things that I cannot figure out how to do with the VP tool.

1) start events that are placed on the edge of a Task are not associated with the task, and they should be since the event is an effect of the task

2) It should be possible to create a message flow from a sequence flow.

Thanks!

The top three would be: ARIS by IDS Scheer, MEGA Modeling Suite by MEGA International, and Proforma ProVisionBPA by Metastorm.

Thanks!

To answer my own question...

1) is because only intermediate events can be placed on borders. VP can do this and they do have a task parent as expected.

And to clarify the other...

2) is not a message flow... its an association... and per the spec, it should be possible to associate a data object with a sequence flow. I have not been able to find a way to do this yet. If it is possible, please explain how.

Thank you

Hello errant01,

Sorry, I have made a mistake. We support the latest version of BPMN, which is 1.0. Version 2.0 is still under discussion so we are not supporting it currently. However, we are unable find version 1.1. Could you direct me with its specification? Here is where we searched:

The BPMN spec is written and maintained by OMG, and can be found here:
http://www.omg.org/technology/documents/br_pm_spec_catalog.htm

BPMN 1.1 is officially a working document, but has been in that state for a few years and is being supported by various modeling tools. The latest (Beta 3) version is here:
http://www.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc?dtc/2007-06-03

Thanks for the help during my evaluation.

Hello errant01,

I have captured a movie to show you how to accomplish your need. Please click the following link to watch:
http://files3.visual-paradigm.com/200710/Jick/FRM-2555/FRM-2555.html

About interoperability with other products, we support XMI. If the products you mentioned above support XMI, you should be able to transfer data between products by taking advantage of the XMI import/export features.

Best regards,
Jick
