Visually defining sequences and triggers? Also ... API?

Hi,

Is it possible to use the ERM Diagram to visually define DB sequences and/or triggers?

We have sequences which are not attached to primary keys (indeed, some are not used within tables, but are simply present as a single point of contact for distributed nodes requiring the next value from a consolidated sequence).

Also, is it possible to define triggers visually? (Even if its just adding SQL to INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE within the VP project).

Ideally, we'd like the VP project to be the master data source of the DB, so the documentation is always up to date with the DB!

Furthermore, to support automated DB creation, we'd like our nightly build and integration system to be able to use an API to create the DDL for the database so it can be created within the build environment. Does such a mechanism exist?

Thanks,

Damien

Hi damien_dougan,

Do you mean you want to generate sequence/triggers to DDL? Or, you only want to model it in diagram?

Best regards,
Jick

Hi Jick,

The answer to your question is both :)

Visually, we'd like to see the sequence and triggers. But we'd also like to have the DDL/DML relating to them available from within the project.

As an example, if we had an element in the model that represented a sequence, then opening the specification would allow the DDL for creating the sequence to be defined.

Thanks,

Damien
