I tried to install the community editon on my box running Debian Linux.
when I exeute the shell script as root I get the following error:
blackwell:/home/rh/src# bash VP_Suite_Linux_3_0_sp2_20070612.sh
Unpacking JRE …
Preparing JRE …
Error: write on output file failed err=28
Error unpacking jar files. Aborting.
You might need administrative priviledges for this operation.
I tried ./VP_Suite_Linux_3_0_sp2_20070612.sh - same result.
There’s a message from ‘linuxman’, date 2006/11/16, addressing the same problem:
My solution to problem was copying
libstdc++.so.5
libstdc++.so.5.0.1
to /usr/lib/
I have libstdc++.so.5.0.7 in /usr/lib, so I created the links
libstdc++.so.5
libstdc++.so.5.0.1
Unfortunately that didn’t solve the problem for me.
I also tried the no_install-version, didn’t help
Any hints how solve this problem are highly appreciated.
Besides that, a document describing the installation process for linux and what happens during installation (which files are copied where to), located somewhere on your website where linux users can find it, would be nice.
What happens when running the No-Install? Could you lookup the Temp folder, find the log file, and post here? It should be named as something like suite_installer#.log

i have a similar problem. when i start script, welcome screen appears, but without any content.
when i run the script in terminal there is an error message:
Unpacking JRE ...
Preparing JRE ...
Starting Installer ...
/usr/share/themes/Glossy/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:35: error: lexical error or unexpected token, expected valid token[

do not want to change theme yet, if there is another possibility.

Finally i’ve tried your “special” version, still the same problem and error-message. no content in pop-up window, so I’ve reinstalled java.
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot™ Client VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode, sharing)
Sorry to know about this. Could you capture some screenshots to show your actions and the results? I would like to discuss with our engineers in detail.
had the same problem here, trying to install visual paradigm on ubuntu 7.10.
empty screen, and the shell tells me about some lexical error in gtkrc.
solution is to disable compiz (turn off desktop effects). then the same error will occur in the shell, however, the setup window of vpsuite shows up correct (not empty anymore).
