I use vp uml community edition 6.0 and ubuntu 6.06
By the way,it has been failed on checking environment,and I cancelled.

I am having a similiar issuing attempting to install under Ubuntu Edgy (6.10). The installer appears to run correctly but the screen that is launched is a blank window. Here is what the console shows:

It looks like the issue is isolated to XGL/AIGXL (Compiz and Beryl) accelerated environments. A work-around is to set the following environment variable:

export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit

This is supposedly fixed in JDK 1.5.0_10, but Ubuntu is still at 1.5.0_8.
