Upgrade to version 8 and application is now unresponsive

I upgraded to the latest version. after doing so, I updated a previous project file from version 7.2, saved and now when i try to alter diagrams the system becomes unresponsive, and seems very error prone.

any assistance or discussion with others having this problem would be greatly appreciated.
