Activity Diagram - Objects state visible?

Hi folks,

I just downloaded the community edition of this software and at first glance, I think it is really good.
However, I can’t find any possibility to make the state of an object visible. I especially would need this in the activity diagram.

Any suggestions or help?

Thanks

André

Hi,

I have the same Problem: apparently, configured object states
are not shown in the diagram. You can fake it using
the object type, but I don’t think this is very satisfying.

If there would be a way to make states visible, this would be
my tool.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Kutte, Peter,

Are you referring to the state of visibility of ‘Object Node’ in activity diagram? If yes, you can set it from the specification dialog box.

Jick

Hi Jick,

thanks for your answer. I was referring not to the logical package
visibility, but to the actual rendering of the State in the ObjectState box
in the diagram. What I need is to show a single object with different
states, which change throughout the diagram, e.g.

DataSet
[Initialized]

and later

DataSet
[Processed]

…and so on. I think this is a standard notation in UML since the early
hours. Is it possible to do this in VP-UML?

Cheers and thanks a lot for your help

Hello Peter,

We will discuss this first. I will come back to you as soon as possible.

Hello Peter,

Sorry for my late response.

Yes, it is possible to specify the state of an object node, and display it on the diagram. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click on the Object Node and select Presentation Options > Show InStates from the popup menu.
  2. Right-click on the Object Node and select Open Specification from the popup menu.
  3. From the InStates tab, press Add…
  4. Enter the information of the state, press OK
  5. Close the state specification

Now you should see the state label name appear in the Object node. Note that you need to create separate model for different state of Object node.

Jick

Hello Jick,

thanks a lot for your answer, that’s exactly what I needed! Great!
I think now the tool supports everything in behavioural modeling
I need.

Cheers and thanks again
Peter
