Hello Artur,
Thank you for your message and we are going to support ArchiMate in the coming VP Suite 5 (see http://www.visual-paradigm.com/product/vpuml/provides/reqmodeling.jsp#archimatediagram). Stay tune for more information about the VP Suite 5.
Best regards,
Rain
Hello Rain,
That’s good news ! Thanks. Is it possible to receive any details of the implementation?
Best regards, Artur
Hello Artur,
Actually this has been released, and supported in Enterprise Edition of VP-UML/SDE, also all editions of Agilian. Feel free to contact me if you require any further information.
Best regards,
Rain
IMO VP should provide support for ArchiMate in Modeler or Standard editions just as support for UML, because ArchiMate is just an alternative for UML, so there is no reason to give it higher “grade” than for UML.
Enterprise Architect does offer ArchiMate in more basic editions for instance:
https://sparxsystems.com/products/ea/compare-editions.html
So does Visual Paradigm Online - it provides ArchiMate support even in the free edition.
Thank you for your inquiry and I think we do have big differences in terms of ArchiMate support when compare with EA. As we know EA is using the UML profile approach to turn their standard UML models “become” ArchiMate models. But in VP we are having different set of meta model which is implement according to latest ArchiMate 3.1 specification. Also we are one of the Open Group certified tool on ArchiMate 3 (see https://certification.opengroup.org/register/archimate-tool ), while EA isn’t on list. I think this is quite a good implication about the different level of ArchiMate support between us and EA.
And regarding to the online version currently it is just for diagramming, it don’t have sophisticated modeling capabilities such as reuse of models, documentation generation, TOGAF support, etc… which covered in the desktop version. The online version is aimed to let user create casual ArchiMate drawings, while the desktop version is for companies who need the tool for detail modeling on their enterprise architecture. Feel free to contact me for any questions and wish you have a good day!
Thank you very much for the explanation!
Is there any plans to support collaborative modelling online with Archimate? So far importing diagrams from VP is the only supported feature (don’t start me on the embedded webpage), and there is no export to VP feature.
We do support collaborative modeling on ArchiMate in our desktop app. For VP Online we allow multiple users edit the same ArchiMate diagram at the same time (Real-time Collaboration with Visual Paradigm Online | Online Design Tools for Teams - YouTube), but just they are not yet model based editing. The model base editing in VP Online is still on our list and keep in progress. At this point I cannot disclose more info on this. Stay tuned about the update on this feature.
