Copy images from class diagrams?

When I select some (connected) classes on diagram and edit-copy then I can paste them on another class diagram, that’s good. Now if I try to paste outside VP (Word of Irfanview) then I get nothing.

This is simple graphical representation and should go trhough clipboard. Is there a way to enable VP to paste outside the program ?

Hi Valgevali,

Thanks for your post. You can select the shape(s) on the diagram, right-click on the shapes and select Copy > Copy to Clipboard as Image (JPG)/(EMF) in the popup menu. Then you can paste the shape(s) to other application like MS Word.

Hope this helps. If there is any further inquiry, please let me know!

Thank you!

Still - I don’t know how win32 clipboard exactly works but I’d say an average user would expect that to work with just ctrl-C and ctrl-V, that would be a great usability feature.

Hi Valgevali,

Thanks for replying. You can configure the keys for copy shapes within VP-UML, copy shapes as JPG, etc at Tools > Options > Keys (see image) to fit your need. You can get more details of configuring keys from the following link:

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask if you have any question.

Anyway, I just wanted to note that it can be improved. Some others applicationd decide inside “paste” function that is more convenient. If you paste to the same program you’ll get classes+connectors; if you paste to a picture program you’ll get jpg.

Thank you for support.

Hi Valgevali,

Thanks for replying. I think this is simply decided by other applications which accept the paste action.
Our model are quite unique, other applications do not understand what it is and cannot paste as image directly, that’s why we provide extra menu for pasting as image.

I’m not saying this to give you hard time, just to give my input

By “other applications” I meant “other UML tools” (I guess their model is unique too).

In some uml programs (after regular ctrl+C) the paste works good to the same application, to MS Word, to Irfanview. This is a great usability feature. Thank you again.

Hi Valgevali,

Thanks for replying. We will consider this issue in the future, thanks for your suggestion!
