How to Draw Return Message from Ref to LifeLine?

I created sequence diagram 1 like
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3108/93466690my1.png
It has 2 gates, 1 for input and 1 for output.

In sequence diagram 2, I want to reuse diagram 1, so I created Interaction Use and Refer To points to diagram 1. I can call message from local LifeLine to this Ref, but no matter how I try I could not Return Message from Ref back to LifeLine

Any idea how shall I do?

I attach my project file here.

Hi,

Thank you for your post and the project file. You need to create gate on the boundary of the InteractionUse, then create a message from the gate to the lifeline “Step 1” and then change it into return message.

If you need any help, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for the reply. I am still not clear, do you mean I need to create gate on InteractionUse in Sequence Diagram2? I tried and couldn’t find a way to associate gate with InteractionUse

Hi Hardywang,

Sorry for my late reply. I’ve passed the issue of not able to associating with InteractionUSe to our engineers to follow-up. If there is any feedback, I’ll notify you immediately.

Hi Hardy Wang,

I would like to notify you that our engineers fix a problem of not attaching gate with InteractionUse (providing that the gate is created by dragging message from a lifeline to the InteractionUse). You can download the patch from the following link:
http://files2.visual-paradigm.com/200808/Patch/sp1_20080814d/VP_Suite_Windows_3_3_sp1_20080814d.exe

Also, you may refer to the flash movie in the link below of how to create gate on InteractionUse in Sequence Diagram2:
http://files2.visual-paradigm.com/200808/FlashDemo/refer_seq_dgms.htm

I hope this will help. If you have any further inquiry, please feel free to contact me again.

Best regards,

Hi Lilian

I installed the SP1, and it does not seem to work the way you presented.

  1. I Created sequence diagram with Interaction Use, draw message from Life Line to it, and dropped a new gate to Ref.

  2. I moved the position of Life Line 4, but 2 gates are not attached to the Interaction Use.

Hi Hardy Wang,

Thanks for replying. When I captured the flash movie I did not have this problem, and I did tried again but cannot repeat your problem.
May I know did you install the patch (20080814d) I sent you in my previous post?

If you have installed the patch 20080814d but still have this problem, could you please give detailed steps for reproducing your problem? Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Lilian Wong

I believe I installed that SP1
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/5867/49021879nw5.jpg

These are my steps:

  1. Create a new sequence diagram named “Sequence Diagram 1” with several LifeLines.

  2. Create a new sequence diagram named “Sequence Diagram 2” with 2 LifeLines.

  3. Create a “Interaction Use” and drop it to 2nd LifeLine on “Sequence Diagram 2”.

  4. Right click on “Interaction Use” and select “Refer to” to link Ref with “Sequence Diagram 1”.

  5. Drag-n-drop “Gate” from tools bar to “Interaction Use” on “Sequence Diagram 2”.

No matter how I try, I could not attach the Gate with “Ref”.

Hi Handywang,

Thanks for replying and the details. I’ve passed the issue to our engineers to follow-up. If there is any news about this issue, I’ll come back to you immediately.

If there is any further inquiry, please do not hesitate to contact me.
