I have tried several times now to install VP SDE-CE 20050624 to no avail. The install4j wizard consistently crashes with the message:
“The Java™ VM could not be started. You may use the parameter “/manual” to download or manually slected a different VM”
What gives? JAVA_HOME is C:\Java\J2SDK\j2sdk1.4.2_06 and none of my other programs have any trouble finding it.
I tried adding the /manual parameter to a command line call but nothing changed.
Considering that I’m evaluating the Community Edition to see if my organization should invest in the Enterprise Edition, this is very discouraging. It is also discouraging that nowhere in your documentation are system requirements listed (or, if they are, they are in some location so obscure that they can’t readily be found).

Windows XP SP2

Eclipse 3.1 in C:\Java\Eclipse\Eclipse3.1
Thank you for your message. Could you please try to use the No Install version? After downloading the No Install version, you just need to unzip it and execute the VP Suite.exe inside the bin directory for doing the post installation. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.
The No-Install version won’t install ether. When I run VP Suite.exe, I get an hourglass cursor for a moment and I can see a process start in Task Manager (about 22MB of usage) but nothing appears on screen.
In my Local Settings\temp\suit_installer.log it says:
After trying to run launcher\run_vpuml.exe, VP Suite\bin\vp.log says:
Cannot read Product and Edition

I also found one error log in \bin:

Still no luck. Suite_installer.log contains the same messages as before and in Windows Task Manager I can see that a VP Suite process is started but it doesn’t show up under the running programs nor in the Windows Taskbar.
I even tried pointing my JAVA_HOME environment variable at the 1.5 JRE you sent in case it was a JVM problem but nothing changed.
Thanks for replying. I think you are launching the VP-UML Plugin Packer.exe. This program is for packing the VP-UML Plugin. In fact it’s quite out dated and should be removed (the current plug-in architecture didn’t need this). We are sorry for any inconvenience this problem caused you.
I suggest you uninstall the software and re-install it (because you have replaced the JRE with the one I send you) then launch the application with the shortcut created in the Start Menu or the executable inside the launcher directory of the VP Suite.
If the problem still persists with the launcher or shortcut, please let me know!
The current problem is NOT that the software won’t run, it’s that it won’t even INSTALL!! There is NO shortcut.
I just did the following to ensure a clean install:
Deleted existing “No Install” version. Leaves me with an empty C:\VisualParadigm directory.
Extracted VP_Suite_Windows_NoInstall_2_0_20050624.zip to C:\VisualParadigm.
Deleted C:\VisualParadigm\jre
Extracted jre1[1]6.zip to C:\VisualParadigm\jre
Double clicked C:\VisualParadigm\bin\VP Suite.exe
NOTHING HAPPENS!!! No Install4J screens, nothing in Windows Task Bar. When I look in Windows Task Manager, there is a VP Suite.exe process consuming around 23Mb under Processes but no corresponding task under Applications yet my CPU is maxing out.
I am NOT launching the VP-UMP Plugin Packer. Out of desperation I tried launching C:\VisualParadigm\launcher\run_vpuml.exe but all that does is make an entry in \bin\vp.log:
Cannot read Product and Edition
[Fri Sep 23 10:36:09 PDT 2005]: Start Visual Paradigm for UML Professional Edition [VP-UML PE]: 5.0 (20050624u)

This is NOT a runtime problem, it is an install problem.
I have the same problem, it shows the java.io.file error that .fileslog not be able to find.
I try unistalled, install…it still showing the same errror.
