It seems that the server needs to be configured while running X on the local machine? Is there a way to do it remotely? When I start TeamworkServerConfig it just plain dies.

Thank you for your post.
You need to run the installer on the server machine (Of course, you can remote to that machine to install). Yet, you can login to a remote machine to administer the server.
