Non-modal specification windows

SDE needs non-modal specification windows. Many UML products have moved away from modal dialogs since they are not user friendly:

  1. They obscure the diagram when open
  2. Properties aren’t viewable at a glance w/o opening the specification window
  3. Right clicking and selecting from a menu is always slower (physically and mentally) than just clicking on an object and then going to a docked window.

Why is there a separation between the properties window and the specification? Don’t they logically belong together?
